I was born in Sydney, Australia and as a small child I grew up there and then in Ontario, Canada, where my father was a law professor.
When I came to England with my parents, I went to both primary and secondary school in Oxford. I went on to study for a BA/MA in French & Russian language and literature at the University of Cambridge and then for an MPhil in the History & Philosophy of Science and Medicine, also at the University of Cambridge.

I spent much of my early career in the world of modern art and fine books, first at Sotheby’s in London and then as the founder-director of my own gallery in Cambridge.
After many years of working for myself, I decided to retrain as a secondary school French teacher and completed a PGCE at the University of Oxford. Since then, I have taught both in schools in Oxford and worked as a private tutor chiefly in maths, English, French, and some of the sciences.
My own child has mild dyspraxia and pronounced dyscalculia (a learning disability that affects his perception and understanding of numbers). Maths has thus been a real struggle for him over the years. It has been both a learning experience and a privilege for me to work with him, trying to help him overcome his learning disability and improve his maths. Other children often come to me as tutees with similar challenges and I have really enjoyed working with them. I firmly believe that I have found my true vocation.
